At-Home Fitness & Healthy Living In 2021

At-Home Fitness Tips

We learned quite a few things while in quarantine the past year. Two of the most important things that many of us have taken for granted pre-covid are time and health. 2021 is the year for taking control of our health, time and many other things. As quarantine ends and we return to some level of normalcy, many of us will continue to work from home.

For those of you working from home, it’s important to stay in good overall health and that means consistent fitness routines, good eating, and a good night’s sleep. Heck, it’s important for everyone, not just those working from home. Anyone who chooses to remain on the laptop lifestyle or work from home routine, we’ve got some fitness tips and tricks that’ll help you stay in shape throughout the year.

Here Are Some Simple At-Home Fitness Tips…

While it’s super important to stay fit, it’s equally important to make sure that your doctor approves before partaking in any physical activities or drastic nutritional changes.

We are not doctors or nutritionists, but we do care about our health as well as the health of all models, Camsoda users and anyone else reading this article. Okay, now that we’ve got the disclosure out of the way, time to get to the fit fun stuff!

YouTube Fitness Channels

YouTube Is An Amazing Resource

Let’s kick this off with fitness training resources. If you were paying for a gym membership, especially an expensive one, then chances are you may have received access to their classes in-app or online.

This is what gyms like Equinox did in-app classes with Equinox+ but most of us cannot afford that, especially during a pandemic. So for those of us that don’t have hundreds to spend on classes, we turn to YouTube.

YouTube has some of the most incredible fitness routines of all-time. There are dozens of free channels to consider using if you’re looking to get fit. You’ll find something that caters to your specific level of fitness and whatever type of training you’re into.

Feel free to browse around via the video platform. We’ll help point you in the right direction. Here are some YouTube channels that we recommend checking out. While we won’t discuss it directly, you might also consider checking out Twitch. There’s lots of fitness related channels on that platform as well.

POPSUGAR Fitness

This channel is a solid option for those looking to incorporate bodyweight exercises into their routine. When webcam models reached out to us asking for advice, this was the first channel that we suggested checking out.

Not only for the variety of exercises, but for the minimal exercise equipment required as well. They make getting fit easy as possible as long as you’re willing to put in the work while watching the classes.

Love Sweat Fitness

Why do we recommend the Love Sweat Fitness channel by Katie? Well, because it’s about as relatable as one gets. She’s tried all the fad diets and it wasn’t until she made lifestyle changes that things really turned around for her.

Yes, Katie dropped serious weight, to the tube of 45 pounds! She’s got a great 5-day challenge for anyone willing to put the time in. If you’re struggling to maintain a healthy weight, then this certified personal trainer can help.

Joanna Soh Official

This fitness channel has 2.4 million subscribers and the one and only Joanna Soh runs it. She’s got one video called Burn 10,000 Calories in 30 Days! (No Weights, No Gym) and it’s earned 44,000 likes alone.

Joanna’s content really sets the bar and not only does it do that, but it will motivate the heck outta you! She’s a personal trainer that understands health, fitness, nutrition, and everything in between.

XHIT

The XHIT Daily fitness channel delivers great workouts with lots of variety. What’s fun about this channel is that they perform fitness routines designed by celebrities. If toning and total body workouts is your thing, then you’ll find plenty of fit fun at XHIT.

MattDoesFitness

What’s there to like about the MattDoesFitness channel? A lot! He’s a natural bodybuilder and one that creates content worth consuming.

With all the value and workouts that he provides in each update, it makes sense that 2.05 million people are subscribed to the channel. If you’re looking to naturally build muscle, then this is the channel that I’d consider above all others.

FitnessBlender

The FitnessBlender channel is great for those looking for a no-nonse fitness routine. They don’t preach about diet pills, crazy secrets or anything like that.

Just plain old hard work no matter how much time you’ve got to grind it out. Whether you’re looking to squeeze in a 30 minute sweat sesh or a 5-minute fast abs workout, this channel has it covered.

JayCutlerTV

For those of you looking for something more bodybuilding centric with heavier lifting, then Jay Cutler’s official YouTube channel is a great choice.

If you’re going to get fit, why not do so with the number one bodybuilder in the world. Jay’s channel focuses on lifting, nutrition, living the fitness lifestyle and more. Perhaps the best bodybuilding channel out there.

Equipment Worth Purchasing To Enhance Your Workout

There are some items that we do recommend purchasing in order to enhance your workouts at-home. For starters, you’ll want to get a nice high-quality mat. You’ll also want to get some resistance bands, a foam roller for recovery days and some dumbbells and/or kettlebells if possible.

Some of these items are still really tough to find. I’d suggest holding out if the dumbells are priced insanely high. You can achieve your goals without spending a ton of money on equipment, so please, don’t go crazy. Buy what you can and you’ll thank me for doing so.

Focus On

What To Focus On

Not exactly sure what you should be focusing on when it comes to fitness? No problem, here are some suggestions. You’ll want to be sure to focus on four different areas.

Those areas are strength, flexibility, aerobic, and balance. Of course, you’ll want to focus on whatever area most interests you but hitting all of these is really important for overall health and wellness.

Woman Running

Aerobic

According to an article published by Harvard Health, aerobic exercise is important for many body functions and it “speeds up your heart rate and breathing.”

This type of physical activity will help increase your endurance overall. If you’re looking to lower your blood pressure, burn fat, lower blood sugar, and more, then aerobic exercise is what you need to be doing.

Think about jogging, working in some high-intensity interval training, doing high-knees, cycling, swimming, dancing, and more. Any of these activities will help!

Woman Squatting

Strength Training

Incorporating some form of strength training or weight training is important. In fact, strength training will help you perform regular day to day tasks without struggling as you get older.

It will help improve your posture, reduce stress, lower back pain and more. In fact, it’s tough to find a reason why you shouldn’t start weight training regularly.

Exercises you should think about doing are squats, lunges, push ups, pull ups, rows, and more. Focusing on contraction and form is what matters most here.

Woman Stretching

Stretching

Next up, you’ll want to stretch like crazy. Well, not really, but you definitely want to work stretching into your fitness routine. Doing so will help keep your tendons strong as well as increase your flexibility.

Why is this important? Well, the more flexible you are the less likely you are to injure yourself. Remember, as previously stated, YouTube is your friend.

Think about incorporating stretches that will hit the major muscles. Don’t overdo it though. You should never have too much pain while stretching, just a lot of discomfort but never pain.

Better Balance

Working at home often means more sitting. If possible, instead of spending so much time sitting at your desk, trying standing and balancing exercises while doing so.

Maintaining good balance will help prevent falls and other issues that commonly occur from losing balance.

Conclusion: Move Your Body

Whatever you do, if you haven’t made it a point to start taking a healthier approach to life and overall health, then now is the best time to do so. We’re fortunate to still be here doing the things that we love to do.

A healthy body and mind is not a guarantee, it’s a privilege that we must all work at. If you have any questions about fitness or health in general, then please reach out.

Once again, please be sure to contact your primary care physician before making any significant changes to your daily routines. Good luck and stay fit!
